Family Engagement
Family-Led Community Groups
Our district is committed to strong partnerships between schools and families. We offer three distinct parent-led groups—ELPAC, SEPAC, and FANs—that provide opportunities for you to get involved and help shape our community.
Family Action Network (FANs)
The BART Family Action Network (FANs) is our parent and guardian volunteer organization. FANs is a welcoming space for families to connect with one another, strengthen relationships with the school, and contribute to the BART community.
FANs provides families with opportunities to:
- Volunteer at events such as school dances, field day, graduation, and other community gatherings.
- Support student life by helping with fundraising initiatives, student activities, and school celebrations.
- Build connections with other families who want to be active participants in their student’s educational experience.
- Collaborate with school staff to support strong school-family partnerships.
Through FANs, parents and guardians play an important role in shaping the BART experience—making it a vibrant, supportive, and engaging place for all students.
The Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is a volunteer organization of BART parents and guardians committed to supporting students with special education plans and their families.
SEPAC provides families with:
- Information and resources on the educational development of children with special education needs.
- A collaborative voice to share feedback with the school on programs, services, and supports.
- A support network of parents and guardians who understand the unique challenges and successes of raising a child with special education needs.
- Opportunities to connect with school staff, share experiences, and discuss ideas that can strengthen BART’s inclusive learning environment.
By participating in SEPAC, families help ensure that every child has the tools and support needed to succeed at BART and beyond.

English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC)
The English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC) is a group of parents and guardians of current and former English Learners (ELs). ELPAC members meet regularly and can give schools and districts advice on topics that are important to ELs.
What ELPAC provides for families:
- A voice for parents and ELs: ELPAC is led by parents to ensure their perspectives are heard and considered by the school.
- Support for students: By joining, you can help ensure that ELs not only succeed academically but also maintain their unique cultural and linguistic identities.
- A collaborative space: ELPAC members come from diverse backgrounds and speak many different languages. It is a space to work with the school to improve services, communicate effectively with EL families, and create opportunities that help all ELs be successful.
Who can join ELPAC?
Parents and guardians of current and former English Learners are welcome to join. You do not have to be fluent in English to participate.
