The Arts & Technology Advantage

In the 21st century, creative thinking and advanced technology skills are essential for college and career success. At BART Charter Public School, we weave arts and technology throughout our curriculum to provide every student with an academic advantage that blends creativity with technical proficiency.

We commit to developing students' multimedia communication and presentation skills and providing rich opportunities to explore their creative strengths in arts and technology elective courses.

Key Components of Arts & Technology Integration

  1. Arts and Technology Elective Courses

Every student chooses from a variety of engaging arts and technology courses. These courses are taught by BART faculty and, subject to grant funds, visiting artists.

Middle School: Students choose from electives and enrichment courses offered in music, drama, STEAM, visual arts, and technology.

High School: Electives and Creative Studio courses include digital media, 3-D design, theatre, music, graphic design, computer science, and visual art. Independent study classes are also offered.

  1. The Makerspace Facility

The central atrium of BART’s building houses a dedicated Makerspace facility equipped with art, fabrication, and electronics equipment. This space encourages deep, project-based learning.

Students use the Makerspace during structured elective courses and individual learning time to:

  • Solve physical problems
  • Create art and prototypes
  • Think creatively
  • Work collaboratively and independently
  • Explore design and engineering principles

  1. Technology-Enriched Classrooms

We ensure every student has the tools necessary to excel in a modern learning environment. BART operates a fully wireless computing environment with a 1:1 student-to-computer ratio across all grades.

Students use devices, LED panels, projectors, and online classrooms daily to actively engage in learning and demonstrate their knowledge through multimedia projects.

  1. Student Showcases and Performances

Each semester culminates in a showcase of student work from the visual and performing arts classes. These events celebrate creativity and provide students with valuable presentation experience.

Students also have opportunities to perform in plays or exhibit their work throughout Berkshire County and in juried shows.
