Arts & Technology

In order to thrive in the 21st century, students need creative thinking and technology skills.  At BART, we weave arts and technology throughout our curriculum to develop multimedia communication and presentation skills, and we provide all students opportunities to explore their creative strengths in arts and technology elective courses.

Arts and Technology Elective Courses

Every semester students choose from a variety of arts and technology courses taught by BART’s faculty or, subject to grant funds, a visiting artist.  BART middle school students choose from elective and enrichment courses offered in music, drama, STEAM, visual arts, and technology. The electives and enrichment courses offered in the high school include digital media, 3-D design, theatre, music, graphic design, computer science and visual art.  Independent study classes are also offered in our high school.

The central atrium of BART’s building houses a makerspace facility which is equipped with art, fabrication, and electronics equipment. Students have the opportunity to use this space during structured elective courses as well as during individual learning time. In this facility, students solve physical problems, create art, think creatively, work collaboratively and independently, and explore.

Technology-Enriched Classrooms

Students learn best when they are actively engaged in the classroom.  BART students use laptops, LED panels, projectors, laptops, and online classrooms daily to learn and demonstrate what they know.  The school hosts a wireless computing environment with a 1:1 student to computer ratio in grades 8-12 and dedicated laptops in 6th and 7th grade ELA, Science, and History classes.

Student Performances and Arts Showcases

Each semester culminates in a showcase of student work from the visual and performing arts classes. Students also have opportunities to perform in plays or exhibit their work throughout Berkshire County and in juried shows.
