Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan
Safety and Respect: Our Commitment to a Bully-Free Community
At BART Charter Public School, our highest priority is providing every student and staff member with a safe, respectful learning environment that is free from bullying and cyber-bullying. Our approach is proactive, integrated, and rooted in our commitment to fostering a community of civility and admiration for differences.
We are dedicated to preventing and eliminating all forms of harmful and disruptive behavior that interferes with the learning process.
Highlights of Our Proactive Approach
Our comprehensive Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan is rooted in M.G.L. c. 71, §37O and emphasizes positive, skills-based interventions. Here is what is special about our continuous commitment to safety:
1. Focus on Restoration and Climate
We are committed to restoring the sense of safety for any student who has been targeted. Our interventions are designed to promote positive behavior through:
- Skills-Based Training: Teaching students key skills like positive communication, conflict resolution, and empathy.
- Restorative Practices: Using constructive disciplinary practices that balance accountability with the need to teach appropriate behavior.
2. Protection Regardless of Location
Our plan ensures student protection both physically and digitally. We take action if the behavior occurs on school grounds, during school activities, or off-site if the acts materially and substantially disrupt the educational process or create a hostile environment at school.
3. Comprehensive, Mandatory Reporting
We empower every member of the community to be part of the solution.
- Mandatory Staff Reporting: Any staff member or volunteer must report immediately upon becoming aware of a potential incident.
- Zero Tolerance for Retaliation: Any retaliation against a person who reports an incident is strictly prohibited and subject to severe disciplinary action.
