Student Achievement

BART students achieve in a variety of settings – academic, athletic, artistic – both inside the school and outside, in the broader community.

Congratulations go to:

  • BART students who earned a place on the first trimester Honor Roll for the 2011-2012 school year.
  • John Adams (grade 11) and Colleen Garrity (grade 12) who successfully auditioned for the Western Massachusetts Senior District Honors Chorus!  On November 12, John and Colleen traveled to auditions at Westfield State College, where they sang prepared solo literature, sang scales, and sight-read a piece of music they had never seen before.  Based on the strength of their performance, John and Colleen will represent BART in this selective choir featuring students from across the state.  They will attend two full-day rehearsals at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, culminating in a performance on January 14.
  • Jake McNicol & Colleen Garrity for their appointment to the District Attorney’s Youth Advisory Board.  The Youth Advisory Board works with members of the District Attorney’s Community Outreach and Education Program in formulating effective education programs address social issues impacting youth today.  The energy and creative ideas of the Board members are used to develop prevention programs and activities focusing on community health and safety. Serving on this prestigious Board gives students the opportunity to take a leadership role in influencing positive change in the community and serves as a vehicle to enable the District Attorney’s Office to better address critical risk factors affecting youth throughout Berkshire County.
  • Dean Covert & Chip Kirchner for their appointment to the Mountain One Junior Board of Directors. At each monthly meeting, students participate in an educational session, a short focus group and a group project. The group project is a real effort to launch or enhance a youth-focused product, service or delivery channel.  Students who are chosen to serve on the board have demonstrated a desire to focus on business in the future, have an outgoing and energetic personality, a strong academic background, and actively participate in volunteer, community, and extra-curricular activities.  Selected students gain valuable experience regarding corporate structure, the business environment, and business processes.
  • Christianna Berti and Nicole Allen for their involvement in the Youth Leadership Program of Berkshire County.  The Youth Leadership Program seeks to develop young individuals to be the next generation of community leaders; preparing them for constructive and responsible involvement in community affairs, while also thinking seriously about career pathways in Berkshire County.  The program has been developed for high school juniors who apply in the spring semester of their sophomore year. Applicants are selected based on demonstrated leadership qualities both inside and outside the classroom. Through Youth Leadership, students are given the opportunity to gain knowledge and insight that will help them make meaningful decisions regarding their future.
  • Alexis Lesure & Haley Brown for being awarded a National Citation Award by Girl’s State sponsored by the American Legion.
  • This year’s BART Scholars. This is an annual award recognizing students for their growth and achievement on the MCAS.  It brings with it a cash prize that a BART student can use towards his/her college education.  This year’s 2011 BART Scholars are: Heather Belisle (grade 7), Alain Morrissette (grade 7), Noah Chicoine (grade 8), Angela Stanley (grade 8), Colin Douglas (grade 9), Drew Grady (grade 9), Cassidy Matthew (grade 11), and Dyllan McLear (grade 11).
  • Students who were recognized for either high growth or high achievement at our 2011 MCAS Awards Ceremony.
  • Christopher Cozzaglio on being one of the founding members of the Youth Advisory Council at the Minerva Arts Center in North Adams.  Christopher’s work on the council will be to help in the planning of  teen activities like dance parties, comedy nights and concerts featuring student bands.
  • Students who made the 2010-2011 third trimester Honor Roll.
