Who is eligible
to enroll at BArT?
Any student who can enroll in a district public school may apply to BArT. BArT has application deadlines throughout the calendar year. (Please contact us for application deadline information.) If more students apply to attend BArT than there are seats available, BArT will conduct a lottery to determine which students will enroll at BArT and which students will be placed on a wait-list for admissions.
BArT does not require students to have a certain grade point average or ask students to pass any kind of entrance exam or audition. BArT does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, ancestry, athletic performance, special need, proficiency in the English language or another language, or prior academic achievement.
BArT is designed to serve students in Northern Berkshire County Adams, Cheshire , Clarksburg , Florida , Hancock, Lanesborough, New Ashford, North Adams , Savoy , and Williamstown. If BArT does not fill its seats with students from Northern Berkshire County it may enroll students from other communities using a random lottery.
How does the enrollment process work?
If more students wish to enroll than space available in the appropriate grade, BArT must use a random lottery to enroll students. An individual with no connection to BArT will draw the names of all students who submitted enrollment forms before the application deadline. After all available slots are filled, the rest of the names will be drawn and placed in order on a waiting list.
State law does not allow more than 9 percent of a district's net school spending to be transferred to a charter school, and this can limit the number of students able to attend BArT from each district. This means that during the lottery process students drawn from a district at its spending cap will be placed on the waiting list while students from other districts will continue to fill available slots.
Students attending BArT who advance to the next grade level do not need to re-enter the lottery.

Make sure BArT is the right school for your child.
We encourage families to learn as much as they can about BArT before enrolling a child. BArT is very different from district schools: BArT has a longer school day, emphasizes the arts and technology in every subject, and uses authentic performance assessments to engage students in learning. We believe BArT is a great school for students who want a more active learning environment.
